Hi Gang:
Was just checking my hotmail account (not my primary e-mail) and noticed a new update from NCD (The Institute for Natural Church Development.
They are currently putting together a new resource that will assess spirituality styles.
The survey is 126 questions in length and provides results for 9 different categories. NCD claims that the survey can be completed in about 15-20 minutes. I clocked in at a little over 8.
The resource that it is attached to rolls out in October 2009 and will no doubt have more information to work with.
Other diagnostic tools developed by NCD often have a component which asks a close friend to also assess you to provide something of a corrective lense. This diagnostic doesn't have that in the online version. The wording on the results page leads me to believe that it is a strong possibility.
At any rate I scored the following:
125
122
121
114
108
96
116
115
113
Because it is still in the preliminary stages they are asking for respondents to identify their country and denominational affiliation.
When I did the survey they didn't have The United Church of Canada in the drop down menu so I selected "other" and typed in The United Church of Canada. I have no way of knowing if that meant I am the first or it just doesn't exist in their drop down menu yet.
If you would like to participate you can head on over to:
http://www.3colorsofyourspirituality.org/node/add/spiritual-style
They are collecting data until April 30, 2009
Grace and peace to you.
John

hrm. I can't get the link to work. Can someone confirm whether it is a problem with the link? It could equally be my uber-crappy Rogers DNS locator.

It worked for me - what is interesting is the bias in the questions which made it hard to answer some -when I get my results will post them -

I don't know RevMatt, your avatar DEFINITELY has style. How can one not love goalie Jesus? Further evidence that there is some important element of "style" that this survey does not capture.

Hi RevMatt,
Well, I suspect NCD does and we will not fully know until the resource becomes available in October.
From what I read on the site while looking at this the intent is to determine which style is your best path to a deeper relationship with God. Just from looking at the results shown so far I have yet to see anyone who scores really high in one style and really low in all others (or vice versa).
Some of the questions gave me pause also but I have found this to be true of a lot of NCD diagnostics. They try very hard to be non-denomination in their focus and yet speak to all of Christianity in all global contexts.
They read as being more right of centre in their diagnostics and certainly in the material that accompanies the diagnostic one could read that bias as well. Some of the larger materials that they have produced tends to be more moderate.
Grace and peace to you.

Hi RevMatt,
Other than I have less of all sorts of style than everyone else so far... :)
Higher scores do not make one a better person.
Think of it in the same vein as a Myer's Briggs typology. That these are learning preferences not learning abilities.

I noticed in mine a connection between the rational and the mystical - my preference for more sacremental forms of worship and also the connection with the experience of music and the environment. Which is more how I see myself.
I used some of the scriptural questions in the idea of social gospel which made it higher than doctrine.

Hey! That's right in my wheel-house. Has Home-run written all over it.
You have a preferred way of learning. That would be the highest score from among the 9 different styles.
It may not be as high as others for a number of reasons other than you preferring not to learn.
Grace and peace to you.

Hi Kinst,
They have United Church of Christ but no United Church of Canada! We're just as big as the UC Christ. This is imperialism!!!
The Institute for Natural Church Development is headquartered in Germany and is non-denominational.
They work with congregations primarily. At one point they were trying to get denominations on line and were very willing to train individuals as coaches to go back and work with the various denominations. I don't know why that strategy stopped. I do know that for the seven years I was in Newfoundland and Labrador I was the only coach in The United Church of Canada and the only congregations that were interested in NCD were the ones I had a pastoral relationship with.
I think that the highest number of coaches with NCD training the United Church ever had was 5. 1 in NL, 1 in NS, 2 in ON and 1 in BC.
The United Church of Canada as a whole, does not seem to be aware of the existence of NCD or their material. I suspect the same is true of them knowing about us.
Grace and peace to you.

Hi Gang,
Resurrecting the thread because there is new info.
The 3 Color of Spirituality is now at the printers and will be available about the middle of November.
NCD is sending Christian A Schwarz on a North American tour to coincide with the book's availability. There are two Canadian workshops planned. The first is in Edmonton on Nov 4th the second in Toronto on November 13.
Cost for the day is $50 and includes lunch and a copy of the book.
Grace and peace to you.

Hi guys
I couldn't get the link so I went to my god (little g) google. While there I did find some short videos of Christian A. Schwarz , the founder of NCD, if anyone cares to peruse them.

Bumping this up because its interesting to hear what C. Schwarz has to say on the link I posted above. Very short videos. I think he brings a lot of inspiration to churches that don't feel they're doing very well.

Hi Gang.
I'm bumping this thread up as NCD has put up a page which includes more detailed information on the 3 Colors of your Spirituality (including definitions of the different styles we were scoring upthread.
Page found here: http://3colorsofyourspirituality.org/
Some interesting resources available (most with purchase of the book).
