In 10 minutes, it will be Thanksgiving in my time zone. The clocks have already switched in the area to the east.
So, for those who wake up......maybe from a restless night....maybe to a babies cry, or a teen who isn't home yet.....or just the normal morning wake up..
what is one thing you give thanks for.

. I am always grateful for my relationship and the kids we have together. I am grateful for my mothers`mean Quaker temper and her feminist mouth having demonstrated a ``how to`` of the parting of the seas of prejudice . I am grateful that my Dad has lived long enough for me to get to be a friend to him and that he struggles to work through his issues. I am grateful that my sister redirects energy and uses her massive education minute to minute to refuse paranoia and hate. Without her around this geographical spot I would have less light. I am grateful for Worksafe and Healthcare which has made it possible for me to have and heal from Carpal Tunnel surgery. I am grateful for my childhood friend who has finally understood why I wouldn``t let go of her ( even though she lives 3,000 miles away) and is thankful for it.

my faith community; my family; my job
Sorry, I couldn't pick just one.

As with P3, I can not pick just one.
my family; my friends on wondercafe; that I have food clothing and shelter; the grace of God; my extended church family
On the lighter side: PUMPKIN PIE
On the relief side: THAT I AM ALMOST FINISHED MY MASTERS PROGRAM!!!!!!!

Geez - mine looks like Consuming Fire's, except I just started my masters... can't say I'm almost done. How about my other friends too - I can include them too.
I'm thankful that Mack has this circle of friends this week too.

I'm also giving thanks for my family, for my two young men, sleeping now , but soon to awake.. I am thankful that they are kind, and good with children. I am thankful that they are strong & healthy, and we are surrounded by a land where we wake up to glorious fall mornings, filled with peace.

This thanksgiving more than anything I'm thankful for my life and my good health.
Having recently come through the experience of seeing my husband bedridden for 6 months I'm thinking how marvellous it is to have two legs that carry me anywhere I wish to go! I can walk, I can run, I can go places, and do things. We forget that not everybody can.
Oh yes, I'm happy today to have my daughter as my chauffeur . We're invited to a friend's place where we'll enjoy a feast like Babette's Feast...lol. I'm grateful I can eat! That's sure another thing we take for granted.
Thank you God for your precious gift of life.

As I posted in the other thread, I think Life itself would be my biggest "Thank You" point. Everything else i'm thankful for just draws on that.

Well... if we're to pick more than one...
...my beautiful wife, my loyal step-sons, my interesting job, my ministry-goal...
Really, I think we should be thankful for every air-particle, every grass-blade, every ocean-wave, every everything.

Its evening now on the East coast - my daughter her family and her inlaws have come and gone - I'm needed in the kitchen to deal with dirty dishes. I'm thankful for family and food and all the good things that I have shared today. I'm thankful for my friends, both those I know personally, and those on the Cafe (and those I have met in person from the Cafe). I am thankful for life, for sight and hearing, for mobility. I'm thankful that I can read and that I can drive my car. I'm thankful that I was able to attend a beautiful church service this morning and give thanks to God. And I am thankful for my two beautiful grandchildren, and my little virtual granddaughter who is spending the day with her mommy and daddy.
One thing? We are so blessed, how can we limit it to one thing?

aaah, seeler, i should have said, at least one thing you give thanks for......yes, there are so many, how can we limit ourselves.
yet, there are days..when it is hard to fidn them...when what folks are giving thanks for, are things that we might wish were in our lives.
so...even when we wake up....and the kids are puking, or we have received terrible news....maybe, just maybe, we can find one thing to be thankful for....

That during that critical time, when universe was VERY young and hot, that there was just that soupcon more of matter than antimatter so I could be here, experiencing universe with all of you...
Just a Self-writing poem,

One thing I'm thankful for is waking up each day and knowing that there's a chance to begin again. I don't remember that every day but I remembered it this morning.
Today I'm also thankful for my little buddy at church and his big hug this morning. And for having friends and circumstances working out to share Thanksgiving dinner together.

I came across this poem while preparing our October calendar. It kind of sums up my feelings - one should give thanks every day and look for those small things that get overlooked...
Thanksgiving by Ella Wheeler Wilcox
We walk on starry fields of white
And do not see the daisies,
For blessings common in our sight
We rarely offer praises.
We sigh for some supreme delight
To crown our lives with splendour,
And quite ignore our daily store
Of pleasures sweet and tender.
Our cares are bold and push their way
Upon our thought and feeling;
They hang about us all the day,
Our time from pleasure stealing.
So unobtrusive many a joy
We pass by and forget it,
But worry strives to own our lives,
And conquers if we let it.
There’s not a day in all the year
But holds some hidden pleasure,
And, looking back, joys oft appear
To brim the past’s wide measure.
But blessings are like friends, I hold,
Who love and labour near us.
We ought to raise our notes of praise
While living hearts can hear us.
Full many a blessing wears the guise
Of worry or of trouble;
Far-seeing is the soul, and wise,
Who knows the mask is double.
But he who has the faith and strength
To thank his God for sorrow
Has found a joy without alloy
To gladden every morrow.
We ought to make the moments notes
Of happy, glad Thanksgiving;
The hours and days a silent phrase
Of music we are living.
And so the theme should swell and grow
As weeks and months pass o’er us,
And rise sublime at this good time,
A grand Thanksgiving chorus.
As an aside, Ella is not considered a good poet but I happen to like her and I give thanks that her poems are still around

So many different things to be thankful for..
thanks folks and, lb, thanks for the poem.
I am thankful that my parents are able to come over for dinner this evening. They are in their 80's, and though they may live for another 20 years...the likelihood is that they will not.
so...i am thankful that they will be here. I am making birthday cake to celebrate the boys & my mom's birthday, and using her traditional date filling for between the layers...and so, I am also thankful for the ability to ask her, how did you make that..and, that I have memories of wonderful birthdays, looking for pennies or maybe even a quarter!!! in the cake.
