I'm dreaming of a pagan Christmas
Just like in 100 BC
With the White Mare gnashing amongst the mummers
With holly and a sacred tree
I'm dreaming of a pagan Christmas
With oak king, holly king and queen
Let us ring in the bright new year
With misrule and Saturnal cheer.
A crappy song I wrote.
Don't know any of this stuff? Look it up.

Jingle bump, jingle bump
I don't know what to write
I'm too lazy to think of lyrics
For this festive bump

Hi ShamanWolf:
"It's a Pa-gan Christmas,
And I'm riding home to you."
To be sung to the melody of It's a Cowboy Christmas by Rob Dinwoodie.

If you switch "Let us ring in the bright new year" and "With oak king, holly king and queen" then you keep with your ABAB rhyme scheme.
Also, I think it would flow better if you changed it from "With oak king, holly king, and queen" to "With the king of oak, and the royalty of holly" or something, saying king so close together twice is kinda repetative.
Just constructive criticism, do with it as you will.

I'm keeping the rhyme scheme of the original White Christmas song, which is a bit incoherent.

Love it Shamanwolf! Right on! Or should I say, write on!
How 'bout mine:
Oh sacred night
the stars are brightly shining
it is the night of the great oak king's birth
Long lay the world
in darkening days and dying
til he appeared and the soul felt the light
A thrill fo hope
the weary world rejoyces
for yonder breaks a new and glorious morn'
Awe in the trees
oh hear the ancient voices
oh night divine
oh night the sun was born
oh night oh sacred night
oh night divine

Here's a site full of Pagan Carols for Yule. many of them were adapted from Christmas carosl, but since most Christmas carols were adapted from Pagan folk songs, it seems appropriate.

I guess it's also time to repost my Solstice play, "Winter Kings". We performed it again this year at the Unitarian church and the local Solstice gathering.

Or you could change it to ABBA, then you would have "Dancing Queen"

Elanorgold! This is beautiful! Such a lovely melody to begin with, but to be able to have pagan words to it? Thank you so much for posting this! I will definitely save this for future use! :-)
And thank you ShamanWolf for your song as well! :-) It's always good to have new songs to sing!

Your welcome Island Girl! : ) Me and some others have more poems in the poetry corner in pop culture, and you will also find some of Arminius's scattered about.
