This morning I'm shaving my legs, packing up a picnic lunch, slapping on some sunscreen and heading to the beach . Summer finally fought its way through the fog and is here at last with our first hot weekend day and Somegrandma, Somekid and I are off to Martinique for a nice long walk, some boogie boarding, playing in the sand and lunch. Well, I doubt Somegrandma will be boogie boarding and playing in the sand, but I imagine that she will come for a walk with us then read and maybe nap in her chair.
Going to an ocean beach for fun in the sun, especially boogie boarding, is my favorite summer activity. What is yours?

Morning! We're packing for the cottage today - no boogie boarding, but swimming, diving, sunning, eating, reading... good enough. :)
favourite - canoeing, but the canoe is in tough shape since the big storm 3 years ago. Not sure it is up for a paddle this summer. :(

Nothing says summer more than some good old-fashioned baptizing in a real river, lake, or stream.

Tubing, and tanning are by far the best. The best thing to do at a summers night is going in the sauna until your smoking hot, and then jumping into the cold lake. Mmm i love sauna's.

well, we have a local Y with a very large pool called the meditation pool. Remember, now, it is really quite big, not just a warm bath for ten or so beached whales.
It's about five feet deep. So you float out into it, and it has a current that slowly whirls you along - while you meditate.
You are not allowed wine in it, which is too bad - though raising the glass might call for more physical activity than I would really want.
A boogie board might be okay. Can one lie down and doze on it?

my favourite summer activity usually involves a backyard hamburger (with extra pickles) and sorbet for dessert.

Definitely an afternoon at a quieter beach.
Hope you and Somekid and Somegrandma enjoyed your beach afternoon Somegirl. And glad that you got some nicer weather.

It's been hot here these last few days - over 30 - like stepping outside and into an oven. And the forecast isn't much better for tomorrow.
But I've promised my grandson that I will take him to a pioneer village this summer. This will be my last week taking care of him - and it is predicted to rain the rest of the week. So it is tomorrow or never.
Tank tops - sun screen - a broad brimmed hat - and plenty of water. Say a prayer that I survive - I'm not a hot weather lover. Give me a brisk October day anytime.

A hot day at our pond. In the middle of 25 acres so lots of privacy. One of those beepers on the driveway so if a car drives up you have warning to don some clothes.
AHHHH

It is almost too hot here to be outside unless you are in the water.
lastpointe...what kind of beeper do you have on your driveway?
You must have a good "all over" tan .

You can get this thing that is like a motion detector. It sits outside ona post by the driveway. there is a receiver that you can carry with you. When a car goes by the motion detector it beeps.
just enough time to put on a robe.
Actually I don't have a tan , not much. I am a shade person, but i do like a nude swim.

Update: It was the absolute best beach trip ever in the whole history of the world. I don't think that there were many Nova Scotians who were not at the beach last Saturday and everyone agreed that it was the best beach weather ever. There was a slight breeze off the water so we didn't fry. The water was almost as warm as it gets in these parts, which still has the power to cool you down and keep you that way for some time. Martinique has to be one of the most beautiful beaches in Nova Scotia, and most likely ranks up there in all of Canada. There was some kind of lifeguarding competition going on and that was interesting to watch. One of the competitors actually body surfed almost all the way into the shore. I've never seen that before.
Graeme, I attempted to nap on my boogie board but ended up with a nose full of surf. There was a tourist lady with her daughter watching us and they seemed pretty impressed with our skill. I have to say my son and I are pretty good boogie boarders for only doing it a few times a year. Also you can use boogie boards in the lifeguarded area which is a nice plus. No surf boards are allowed in the lifeguarded area.

So glad you enjoyed your day at the beach. However, I was under the mistaken notion that only humans could manage a boogie board.
Not so.

I'm afraid that is a surf board, not a boogie board Ninja. . I tried to convince our cat to come to the beach with us, but he wasn't interested.

Yes, that is a boogie board, maybe not as cool as my rainbow one, but it is a boogie board.
