I am so relieved to see that Valentine's Day decorations and gift items are out in the stores. I'm forever commenting that I wished that I had more time to shop for Valentine's Day. I do hate the last minute rush...
How do you know we are driven by a consumption based society?

Are they really? I haven't been to the stores since Christmas (I couldn't think of anything I needed bad enough to brave the boxing day crowds. Maybe tomorrow, or Thursday morning, I will get over and if there is any wrapping paper, or gift bags, or replacement light bulbs for my Christmas village I may stock up a little for next year - otherwise I might have to do some shopping next year.
(When you go to your daughter's for Christmas and open all your gifts there, she ends up with a good supply of gift bags to recycle and you have none.)

It annoys me to see Halloween and Christmas decorations side by side in the store.

As for valentine's there is a thread over in relationships about it
What suprised me when shopping the week before Xmas was to see hot cross buns in the bakery
