Apologies that this is a bit tardy, but life intervened yesterday.
I have now activated a survey on Survey Monkey. Pinga ran through the naming thread, and found three that were the most discussed and supported to put on the ballot.
These are:
Please go to the link at the end of my post, select the one that you feel should be the name for our successor forum, and click Done.
Since there are only three options, I am doing a single select rather than having you pick a first and second choice. If no names get 50+% of the vote, then I will do a run off ballot, removing the one with the least votes.
Survey will close automatically at noon on Friday, March 28, 2014 (i.e. this coming Friday). I hope to grab the results and post them by end of day. If a run-off is needed, it will go up as soon as I post the results and be open for the same number of days.
The survey will only allow 1 vote from a given network address. If you find you need this changed (e.g. there are two Wondercafe members in your household) contact the support address below.
One final request - We would prefer that there be no discussion of the options or how people voted during the voting. Treat this as a secret ballot at a congregational meeting with the naming thread as the discussion of the motion. However, since I am not a mod, I have only moral persuasion to enforce this. I am appealing to your sense of fairness and democracy to observe this ban on discussion during voting. If, however, others feel discussion during the vote is fair game, please do it in the naming thread or a new thread, not this one. One of us will bump this thread periodically to keep in recent so discussion in it is not necessary.
Let the voting begin!!

p3 - Mendalla can answer for sure - but when I have used Survey Monkey, there is a provision for only one vote per address. So is it possible - sure - some people will find their ways, but most here are honourable I think :-)

I have set it to allow only one vote per address but that does not stop someone from going to a friend's house or the library if they want to vote twice (or from voting from both home and work). The only way around that is to remove some of secrecy so I can see who voted and where, but not what their exact vote was. Not sure SM even supports that.

Bump. Just want to keep it visible. Haven't checked today, but we had 32 votes in as of yesterday so let's keep things moving. If you want a say in the name of our user-run and supported WC successor, see my opening post and vote by noon on Friday.

I've said it before - most Christian forums have a strict "no promoting atheism" policy. They have to.
Granted, part of that is to eliminate some flame wars, but a lot of it has to do with creating a safe haven for Christianity. I would call it a "bubble", others would call it a "fostering environment". I don't think it's fostering when you intentionally keep competing ideas away from people. Christianity is losing young people to nonbelief at an alarming rate. If you can't engage with nonbelievers on your site, that will mean any curious people from your group will have to seek out atheistic forums to learn about atheism, where they won't get your side of the argument.
It's a sorta damned-if-you-do-damned-if-you-don't scenario.
My problem is I hate atheist forums. They suck. It's all self-congratulatory crap. Some are nice to believers, but there's nothing to discuss otherwise. It really is like a group of people who got together because they don't collect stamps. It's boring.
That's why I like this place.

I agree with you chansen about sites that are too exclusive. While including everybody is not possible or even desirable in my opinion, I need a board to have a bit of diversity in order to not only challenge me, but to help be better understand my faith and become better at articulating what it is. It's a balance.
As to Christian sites keeping atheist out, I do not believe it is because they are afraid of their children turning, but that they themselves have such weak faith and too many doubts. They will say the need to defend God, but in reality they are afraid of having doubts, and turn their back on faith, because faith require doubts. And their God is so small they are unable to have faith in it.

Secret ballot means who voted what is secret. Doesn't stop people from saying that they did vote or me from revealing that we are up to ... 34 votes. Not much action in the last day, in other words (which may be a good thing to the extent that it suggests no vote hacking is going on). Come on people! Make sure you get your say in the name of our new online community!

Spring seems to be here in London (positive daytime temps forecast for an entire week!). Hope its coming your way, Kay.
And we are down to the final hours. The poll closes automatically at noon EDT (forgot to specify time zone in my original post). I can't promise an exact time for the results (depends on how long my morning meetings at work go) but I'll endeavour to post them asap, probably by 5pm EDT and certainly by 10pm EDT.
This is the first of many steps in getting the next generation of our online home built. Please contribute you input by voting!
