If memory serves we have had similar bovine adventures in Ontario.

Most as a result of a cattle truck having some issue or other.

I remember one morning quite a few years back herding a flock of sheep off of Regional Road 20 just past Caistor Centre.

The following summer I drove some errant beef cattle through a swamp back to their pasture.

Didn't really need police assistance either time.  I'm surprised Albertan ranchers can't handle the problem.

That said, if at any time I had a testy bull to deal with I'd be prone to let it go where it wanted.

This brought back such a good memory. We were enroute to AB, to visit family. (Also to meet abpenny and crazyheart along the way). I am not sure if we were in SK still or into AB. I will have to ask the one with attention to details (she will know) and we can relive the funny memory.

The road was wide open, not too busy, but busy nonetheless. That is when we saw it. A cow had lost her offspring through a fence. It was on the road wondering where the grass went. My wife came to a stop and out I hopped. I knew it might be frightened, so I tried to use that to my advantage and position myself to get it to retreat off the road. It started up the dirt road like, "I know I came through the fence somewhere around here..." We could hear the mother calling it. It answering back. It had no idea where it had come through the fence and neither did I. My wife went to the farmhouse door and nobody answered. She came up the dirt road beside me and said "Nobody is there, what now?" I remember Pennsylvania well enough still to say, "go to the next farmhouse". Neighbours help neighbours.

Thanks for the memories....

John, I stand corrected.  It must have been a slow news day, as this was treated like breaking news, including the promise to keep us all updated on the situation lol

SG, so true about the neightbours!  lol Good thing in your case it was just a calf and not a bull :)

That is generally how it is treated here in Ontario provided all the animals are okay.  When a cattle truck tips there is always a concern that some animals have been seriously harmed and have to be put down.

I don't remember the last time cattle escaped from one of our abbatoirs and that made news.  General sentiment is for the underdog in that case because everyone knows what happens when it is caught.

Grace and peace to you.

John
