Well this Valentine's day I decided that because I am single I will wear no pants all day. At first it was a grand idea, just stick around the house in my boxers, glorious. Then I realized I had a meeting to go to just after lunch! Problem? I think not! I spent the rest of the day in a kilt!
Given this success, I declare February 14th to henceforth double as "Pantsless Singles Day"!!
I hope all you single people will participate next year! It's great! If you don't intend to leave the house, no reason to get dressed! If you do, there are several options, kilts and trenchcoats for the men (be careful with the trenchcoat, police can smell a flasher from thirty meters!), and skirts/dressed for the ladies.
Underwear is optional.
So what did YOU do for St. Valentine's Day?
As-salaamu alaikum

After three weeks with only visits (I was housesitting) I reunited for nights with my wife yesterday and we spooned, life is good!

LOL @ Omni - that's hilarious!
I just celebrated with the kids at work, and pretended the evening was an ordinary one.

I got about 19 Valentines and spent the evening at home alone forgetting it was Feb. 14.

LOL Omni, sounds like you had fun. I would comment that it is too cold here for that, but you are in a similar clime.
Hubby and I went out for dinner at a newish restaurant. They had a nice special that included waldorf salad, chateaubriande and chocolate fondue with belgian chocolate. I am thinking the chocolate was not the best idea because I was awake longer than I liked...

I woke up to find a little teddy bear that said "I love you" , a beautiful card and two (yes TWO!) boxes of Lindor chocolates.
Later in the day I made some salmon, scallops (big fat juicy ones), veggies and potatoes and popped open a bottle of wine over candlelight. (okay the fake plastic ones)
I leaned over during supper and told my sweetheart his gift was in the backseat of my SUV. I followed him out and screams of delight could be heard throughout my neighbourhood. He had discovered the case of beer that I had bought for him!
By the way, thanks to the guys in Serena's thread that clued me in to what guys REALLY want. He loved it!
(I'll try the kilt next year)

flowers at lunch
when the kids and I drove to give daddy his Valentine's,
a 5 course dinner at a romantic italian restaurant (with red wine and fresh tiramisu),
the most beautiful heart-felt card which made me tear up,
an evening walk at our little island park where the trees are still lit up and couples were iceskating to music,
and a diamond studded ring which brought me to tears.
when we got back to the car to drive home, he played this for me.

LMAO Omni! Thanks for that!
I worked all day ... after work a short get-together with partner & son to exchange cards & stories, then went out for a lovely dinner (sans son) at our favourite Thai restaurant - a short walk from home.
to everybody!

Omni-I am single but do wear pants for valentine's day-hard to be on the floor with pre-schoolers in a skirt.
Potluck lunch at work-I won a door prize and heart shaped pizza with my sons at Boston pizza for supper.

I chose to wear pants all day.
In the evening, I went to see Straight No Chaser with a friend and some of her friends.
This is a sample... but they are way better live...
Hmm... it looks like the video isn't posting...
Click here, then, to see it on YouTube.

What a fun idea. Keep spreading your pantless cheer.
She wanted hotdogs, so we went to DQ. She gave me a funny sexy card and a lovely heart-shaped box of RStover chocolates. I gave her a sweet romantic card.

For us it was an ordinary day. We don't 'do' Valentine's because it is a lot of hype designed to get people to spend money on cards and gifts. We long ago decided that we didn't have to spend money to 'prove' that we love each other and care about each other.
If it was my call there would be a ban on promoting Valentines, St Patricks Day and Halloween in our schools. Christmas and Easter need to be talked about and connected to the festivals of non Christina religions.

I do not buy into the hype or trying to "prove" love with "stuff". I also believe love is for every day... but I also understand that for some they need that day to remind them to express /show/speak... what they do not do so much, whether it is Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day...
This year I needed that day marked on a calendar. I needed it to remember that a friend lost her husband and that a day for couples would be hard. It would be her first. Without that day marked on the calendar, I might have not remembered that she needed an extra dose of love.
I do not think most people are aware how many Christian origin or adopted holidays are marked in schools. I was quite aware as one of those kids who sat at the principal's office while all the class parties went on.

Go Kay! Suport for the Valentines non participants!
ANd Thanks SG for reminding me to remember my dog on Valentines day. We didn't know when she was born so I named Feb 14th as her b-day, but I forgot to remember her this year. Dear old beloved doggie of mine.
I helped my boy pick out a red top to wear to school, watched him open his Valentine card from Grandma, and hung up the woven paper heart he brought home from school.
I approve of noting the holidays in school, I just wish they didn't give the kids gifts and candy. And I definately wish they would cross reference xmas and Easter with other cultures. I was fuming mad when my son brought home an overtly christian xmas alphabet project in grade 2.
