Hi folks,
I am currently putting my plans together for a trip to BC.
I know that I wish to spend time in Vancouver and also will be in the Penticton area.
I am looking at flying into Vancouver, doing a one-way car rental and flying out of Kelowna.
My dates are approx but flying in on Thurs July 26th and travelling to Penticton On Monday, June 30th.
I'm wondering if there are opportunities to mee tor hang with folks during that time frame either in Vancouver or i can do reasonable side trips on my route.

This is great! I will be very happy to tour you around Vancouver while you are here, Pinga. That timing works for me whichever days you are here.

I'd be happy to meet you/ others for a coffee if you're interested. Very strange...I was just thinking the other day, after the dust ups we've had, it would be good to actually meet you in person someday and shake hands. If you were here, I'd offer to take you for a beer (if you drink beer) and it might be fun, and lend a different perspective.

I'm assuming you're either arriving in June or July and leaving in June or July, not arriving in July and travelling backwards in time as the OP suggests? ;)

Didn't you hear? Air Canada now has planes that fly faster than light (which relativity theory tells us = backwards time travel). Of course, that means your bags got lost last Tuesday and the inflight meal arrives before you do, but what else is new?

Hi Pinga:
If you come through Vernon, look me up: 11938 Lambert Drive, Coldstream, 250-549-6773

Arminius. My husband has family in Vernon. I looked at it to see if it was a reasonable side trip, and it may be, so, as the plans work out, will touch base.

ps. the reason for the trip is that I am going on a canoe trip with Tabitha. She has graciously invited this newbie to participate. I am greatly looking orward to it. I will be in the Penticton area for that part, hence why the flight out of Kelowna.

Folks, I hope that, by now, you have noted, written down, indexed, and otherwise kept Arm's address & ph #. You can contact an actual real life, practicing, experiencer, otherwise known as a mystic. No longer do you have to waste your life getting black lung from perusing ancient libraries for even ancienter (???) tomes, wasting your legs and limbs on precarous perches atop eagle-roosting monks to gain a soupcon of their wisdom.
There is Arm. Generous, witty, blacksmithy...overlooking the majectic lake of many colours...
Kamloops (the loops) is the Sport Capital of the OK
Kelowna is the business capital of the OK (and has a real live actual alien abductee)
Vernon (which always has a special place in my heart, my father being from there--it'd be weirdcool if you and I are related, Pinga) is the Crack capital of the OK
Pentiction is the partying capital of the OK
it is a mere 1 h 45 min car ride from Pentiction to Vernon. With lots to waylay you along the route...

Hi Inna: Thank you for the compliments. You are making me blush.
Do drop by next time you are in Vernon!
I too have puzzled over why people pay so much attention to what was written by and about mystics who lived two- or three-thousand years ago, yet pay so little attention to contemporary mystics.
Could it be because contemporary mystics are oddballs?
I can almost assure people that the ancient mystics, too, were regarded as oddballs by their contemporaries.

Hopefully we can get a real Wet Coast Wondercafe meet goin'
Hopefully the BIG ONE won't strike, thereby stranding Pinga in Vancouver for--err, maybe that would be a GOOD thing...yes...yes...
There are lots of people to do, places to see...
Myst has an actual house with actual rooms and actual gardens...
There are TONS of boutiques, cheep eats, sushi shops per square cm in Vancouver...even nice places to picnicknick and even get splashed by a whale or two...

It is my idea that we should do a walk around Stanley Park and then stop for a Beer or some such on Davey Street . . . or Denman. That is Jacquieland.

That'd be fun -- stanley park is sooo gorgeous, and there are a variety of places to nibble & sip there...my bro and i took my dad to Mary's for his first ever visit last week :3 he liked it
a thing a college mate introduced to me was to go to granville market, get a baguette, buy some nice soft cheese, prosciutto, butter, fresh raspberries and pickinicklicketcricktick by lumberman's arch...mmm, bliss

Good on you for being adventurous and taking a canoe trip with Tabby.

I'm good for mobility Inanna, I just spent 10 days traipsing across Europe with a hoard of teenagers. But I will have to take a ferry into town that day, something I usually try to avoid on the weekends. But it'll also depend on my family situation, I may be on holidays at that time.

what to wear so as to be identified by such as Pinga, Jlin & Neo...hmm, they might have to just look for the beached whale with a zebra tail (the one that some WCers have already seen...)

lol, i seem to remember a kilt in some photo?
I am so looking forward to this gathering.
Plans are firming up for air travel, hotel stay, and car rental.
Sunday, June 29th afternoon is looking best for gathering in community and I love the idea of going to the park and having a beer after.
The more the merrier.
If you think of folks who haven't been around, well, by all means, give them a shout.
The only person who I would prefer not to see is Namaste. If you have questions on that, feel free to ask.
Would be awesome if RevLoveJoy was around or Diana (?) or...some of the other BC folks who have been around. who knows, there may be even a squirrel climbing a tree or two that we can affectionally refer to as ez.

June 29 it is> I was thinking that we could we would walk around the sea wall, but if people have other ideas . . . the park is beautiful, of course. We could do a section of sea wall starting at the Aquarium and then move into the park near the Tea House or some thing like that, Any ideas from people?
It has been a while since I've been to English Bay, so I don't know where to recommend to meet.

Ok, I'm sorry but I've come realize that this date is the same date as a wedding party I have to go to. They're getting married on the Saturday but then are having an afternoon reception on Sunday for all those they wanted to invite, but couldn't, on the Saturday. I have to go to both.
Sorry folks.

Sorry to waffle on this issue but after looking at the calendar, for the 4th time, looks like the wedding I'm referring to is the week before, so disregard my previous message.

Sunday June 29 sounds like a good plan, Pinga. Just a heads up - the walk around Stanley Park seawall is 10 km. There are places people could meet up for a shorter walk (eg Second Beach area). I wouldn't be able to participate in a 10 km walk around the park, but could join in for a short section of it. Gathering for a beer/snacks after is a good idea too.
Pinga
Posted on: 05/11/2014 14:38
I would suggest a gentle hangout, maybe a stroll around a garden area in the park rather than a workout. Would be nice to be able to follow it with beer/snacks somewhere.
I am also anticipating heading to RichardBott's church in vancouver on Sunday morning for service if anyone wishes to attend.
I won't have a car so will be exploring the quality of Vancouver's mass transit. I have heard it is pretty good.
(note: i have plans to meet with family and friends on other days while I am there.

Pinga,
where is the flaming Bott's church? that might be a good place for us to meet with you, and then we can head on out, caravaning from there to Stanley Park way?
oh, and my wife (who has an account here on wc but really hasn't been using it much) will be with me for the

to find yer way around the GVRD on public transit, they have a web page
translink.bc.ca
(and like all good such TA's, they have a trip planner)
and they have phone support 604 953 3333 630 - 2330 M-Sun
(which is sometimes better to phone -- 'cause i've received some pretty weird trip planning results from their web site...)
since you'll be travelling during offpeak hours, you won't have to worry aboot zones, just the $2.75 for 90 mins of travel
since yer taking public transit, good places to meet also would be skytrain stations? they usually are hubs where various busses can be taken as well
there are a few that are 'close' to Stanley Park in downtown Vancouver -- Burrard, Granville, Waterfront...Granville has the most exciting escalator -- riding up it (optical illusion as well) it always feels as if im falling over backwards...Burrard station is closeby to some old stonework churches (including the one where i first saw Panentheism)...
(there's even a scientology church near there...)
be lovely to be able to hear some of myst's tunes...:3
(and yeah, unless we want the local news to show some sunbleached beached fauna*, we all shant be walking the whole seawall...)
Neo's comin' in from the boonies--so perhaps us locals can figger out a place to gather that we all know so then we all can meet Pinga at the same time?
i see that Richard Bott's congregation is in Maple Ridge? checking the buses, that is around 90 minutes from downtown vancouver using public transit...
* or in some WC lurkers' blog. wasabiists unite!

When arranging to meet somewhere, don't forget to agree on identification - red baloons, or Wondercafe T shirts, or something visible from 20 feet or so.
When Seelerman and I went to Halifax to meet with Pilgrim and a few others we forgot about the fact that we had never met in person and so would only have a vague idea what we really looked like. We arrived at the chosen restaurant - a busy sprawling place in an old renovated building with seating in at least three rooms and the outdoor patio area. We wandered around, then eventually took a table and told the waiter that if anybody was looking for WonderCafe to direct them to us. Eventually someone did find us - and then Pilgrim arrived (and I would have known her anywhere). But a word to the wise -- a big sign on our table would have helped.

good point, seeler; i've been figgering out how to identify myself to Neo & Pinga (as i haven't met them in meat space yet)...i've got various unique clothings & i could always carry a sign..."the end is not nigh -- enjoy life", "looking for a meaningful one night relationship" or something like that ;3
Neo, what do you think aboot meeting at Waterfront station or Richard Bott's congregation (which is in Maple Ridge -- i think here http://standrewsuc.com/)?
Waterfront station could be an ideal station to meet downtown -- it's got cover from the weather, its got shops to refuel at, a central meeting area with seating that would make identification easier...
Just throwing out idears...

Looks like Richard Bott moved:
http://dunbarheightsuc.ca/pages/staff.html
I'm going to play it by ear as to meeting. Lots to do, places to meet. You should have fun! It's Buskerfest too, so it'll be lively downtown.
http://vancouverbuskerfest.com/ and at Granville Island.
I highly recommend Granville Island if you have time. You can take the little ferry from the West End on Beach Ave. It's not far from Davie St. and the boat ride is 5-10 minutes well spent.

Maple ridge is far, I would prefer Vancouver or even North Vancouver
Pinga
Posted on: 05/16/2014 20:51
Hi folks, kimmio is correct, Richard Bott is at Dunbar Heights, which is at 3525 24 Ave W, Vancouver.
I am staying downtown, close to Burrard Station.
A place to socialize, maybe with a few park benches or something to sit on, some scenery, and a secondary choice based on inclement weather sounds like a plan to me. .
