What are you giving out at door? I have chocolate bars.
More and more people are decorating their houses. Are you seeing this in your community?

risking the "I'm a Baptist" label by saying:
I have not observed Hallowe'en in many years. I will not be decorating or giving out treats.
My parents like to put out lots of candles and pumpkins. I think they're giving Cheesies this year.

I'm seeing X-mas decorations going up all over the place but not all that much Halloween stuff. My condo buliding hasn't organized any kind of treat event for the kids this year.

I'm not giving out treats. I'm going to sit on my porch with a donation can for a charity and as their parents for donations.

Mmm ... cheesies Hilary! I might have to come to your parents house!
We will give out whatever my husband brings home! In the past - when I was the buyer - I prefered to get stuff like peanuts in the shell, rather than the sweets that were just making work for dentists!
We used to decorate outside the house when the kids were around, but haven't done much other than a pumpkin in recent years. I do ususally dress up to answer the door though and that's fun for me. I love squatting down and talking to all the little kids when they visit.

HenrySmyth - now that's an interesting twist - I hope you'll let us know how that goes! And welcome to the cafe, by the way.

We don't observe Halloween either. At my church we are having a "Celebrate the Light" party instead. There will be pizza and a good Christian movie (the pastor's wife gave it a tearful eight stars out of ten).

Well I don't know how long i'll be at home, because I have a revolution to attend that night, but I'll be sure to decry any bourgeois pigs that attempt to get their greedy paws on any candy my mom puts out :P

We don't have kids coming door to door where I live bc it's an apartment building. Sad - because I would gladly give out chocolate bars!
I do put up a decoration on my door. And sometimes I buy a pumpkin and scoop it out and decorate it etc. for friends of mine who live in a house to put out on their porch. I should get going on that for this year!

A very interesting twist - HenrySmyth - keep us posted!
I am giving out little chocolate bars, twizzlers, and small bags of potato chips (if I have any left by then!) Actually I think I'm going to have to go to the store to pick up some more treats - I kind of ate most of mine already. (That is why I usually wait until one or two days before Halloween).
I don't decorate for Halloween, but I do give out treats.
A lot of people in my community decorate for halloween - there are lots of orange lights in the windows, pumpkins everywhere, and those blow up lawn decorations all over the place.

Mmmm .... twizzlers! I may have to come visit you too Beloved! Maybe I'll wear my wondercafe shirt for Halloween - be a seeker ...
Tyson - I can relate to that early eating syndrome! Has happened to us too - especially when teenagers were in the house. So one year my husband hid the candy. When we went to find it on Halloween night - couldn't find it anywhere!! Had to rush out & track down something else. To this day, we have no idea where all the candy went that year.

We started eating the chocolate bars in the car. Our daughter (bless here heart) said, "Are you going to save some for Halloween?" To which we replied, "Of course" Ah. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. We thought about one of us hiding the treats but we both have a sweet tooth, so we both cannot be trusted. We would eventually crack.
Maybe you could have an in house trick or treat for the lost candy. Depending on the type of candy, it might still be good.

I've got skittles & starburst candy (bad for teeth!) and I'll leave the decorating up to the kids. Well, I've brought some stuff home for them to use, since our church has too much going on for the normal party. I think Halloween is great fun when other people spend the money & do the goofy work.
Henry- I'm glad to see you on the cafe. My comment is that if you are going to take advantage of the night to take donations, maybe you could give out stickers or something small that shows you're enjoying their fun. Otherwise it might be an embarrassing thing for the parents to be confronted with your donation can if their pockets are empty (as mine would be) and it would not endear them to your cause.
I wish I had a halloween smiley!

oh yeah - and usually we give out chocolate bars, but my sweetie insists on removing the Reese cups for his own, ahem, need. And then of course the box is open, so a few coffee crisp vanish, and then... darn- have to buy another box!
So this year, its skittles ;)

We'll be handing out little chocolate bars -- but we don't buy them till the 30th or 31st, cuz they don't last long if we buy them too early.
We don't decorate the house, but my dog will be dressed as a clown for Halloween. (She gets a new costume every year.)

I remembered the other day as we had to buy more little chocolate bars (glad to see it's a 'trend' here ) that I bought little bags of cheezies for a few years instead. Less got eaten in advance (not that I don't enjoy the cheezies, just don't go through them the same way). And some years we have also waited until closer to the 31st to buy our treats ... next year we'll think of that.
We have pumpkin lights to hang in the front/livingroom window and we usually carve 3 or 4 jackolanterns and put candles in and put out by the door and walkway.
lol re your dog youthworker. Post photos please.

Seems to me each year the candy bars get littler and littler. I recall that when I was a kid the bars were almost actual size. Now each one is like a little wrapped up chocolate.

I'll be offering a handfull of peanuts in the shell, a mandarin orange or a handful of hard fruit candies. Those who want peanuts can grab there own so I don't get any peanut oil on my hands to contaminate other kids food.

I planned on keeping some coffee crisp, but we had lots of kids, so only a few starburst left. But my boy brought home 2 full bags, so the Candy Tax will cover my share.
Ok- we had about 45 kids, but that was pretty good by my experience.

We are giving out mini chocolate bars. My wife and I ate them all so we have to buy a new box.
for spending $175 at Superstore a couple weeks ago we got the freebie of the week, a 125-box of mini bars. I figured "Sweet, now we don't need to buy Halloween Candy."
Riiiiiiggghht.
