This is more of an FYI - Dr. Deborah Woodman will be leading this seminar....

***********

Sessions are being led by Dr. Deborah Woodman, PhD.  Dr. Woodman has been
teaching courses concerning the Social Construction of both Gender and Sexuality at Algoma University for the past six years. The curriculum for this seminar comes not only from her experiences in the classroom, but from her years working on Queer issues in community. She is actively involved in the local Queer community, currently working with various groups including Welcome Friend Association, the Algoma University Queer-Straight Alliance, and the newly-formed Sault Ste. Marie Chapter of PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians And Gays). She is an award winning professor, and her students describe her interactive classes as challenging, rewarding, and “never boring”!

So these will be taught from a Critical Theorist & Identity Politics worldview?

Mc Jae .... wouldn't it be wonderful to be able to attend to find out what is meant by all of that???

We would have such a good time learning, discussing and forming new relationships.

I do hope that I will perhaps have an opportunity to attend.

Hugs

"...wonderful.... good time..." are not the words that I would use Rita. Educational comes to mind. I doubt that I would leave having forged any new relationships. It's just not really my cup of tea.

Btw, I think it's been a while since I've seen you 'round these parts. Welcome back.

thank you for the welcome back MC Jae....

I am rather sorry to hear that you would not look forward to attending such an event as a good time.   And I am most surprised to hear that you seem reluctant to form relationships with others such as I.......

Rather surprised here .....

Yesterday and today the sessions were on.  See if you know the asnwers to these two quesitons.....

How many genders are there?

Use ze and hir in a sentence and tell us why you would use them?

**********************************

Comments from seminar.....

“Reinforced and enhanced my understanding of sexuality gender and the queer community.  Offered a safe space for comfortable conversations about a bigger conversation that needs to happen in the community.  Feel better prepared to support the queer community and to further educate myself and others!”

“Highly recommend this for anyone working with people,”

“Honest, factual and real.”

“Deconstructing gender and sexuality was very helpful to me as a family life educator.”

“Great professional development for a sexual educator.”

“I was able to ask `stupid` questions to prevent me from hurting LGBTQ people.”

“I made great connections with others who are trying to create safe places and spaces.”

“Will come back and let others know!”

“Hope to bring all this information back to workplace and make it a more accepting safe place for all the queer community.”

How many genders are there?

It depends on which BS (belief system) you believe in...I think there are at least as many genders as there are people in the world

"Look out for that Martin -- ze is storming our defenses," Xabria yelled, brandishing hir masersword...

I haven't hoid of the term ze before, but I see it is related to xie and sie

I tend to use xie for nonhuman sentients and hir/sie for human sentients, both as a kind of 'gender neutral' term

I used to think that there were simply two genders - female and male, but now I simply realize that is untrue. I think of gender now as being more like a spectrum - at one end of the spectrum are the people who were born and believe themselves to be male and at the other end are those who were born and believe themselves to be female. In between are folks who are transgendered, intersexed, etc.

Jobam - I found the same trailer on Youtube:

I have heard about this phenomenon of people having to go back into the closet when they get older before and I think it is so sad. I know that the United Church runs several retirement homes and I wonder if any of them have considered becoming Affirming?
