If you were attending a summer hymn sing, what would get your feet tapping, move your spirit, make you feel the Presence?
I post this because I heard a group sing "Sunny Side"the other day and smiled the whole way through. A friend came in to church the other day singing "O Happy Day" and then I heard a woman in the grocery store softly singing "Down By the Riverside"....

I do not have a voice that lends itself to conventional singing. I suppose one could say I am musically challenged . I love many of the old hymns and I love many of the new ones. I find I sing best with my hands. When I have the privilege to help and serve then that is my singing in full! I love to sing! .... and there are so many songs!

Hmm, so many choices:
Depending on where you were in Canada, this would be appropriate
Of course, out in the hot flatlands of Canada, one might have this happen to them if they aren't careful
And this would totally get my feet-equivalents tappin
And, of course, there are parts of the world where it is summertime when the opposite part of the world is in fimbulwinter, this song might be great during the postprandial bliss

Here is the Video I was trying to show in another thread. This song touches on so many different levels. I watch it every Morning.

If I were going to do a hymn sing, here are some of the hymns I would choose:
An upbeat version of Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah (if you've heard Linnea Good perform it - that's the way I like it)
Amazing Grace (with all of the verses)
Psalm 100 and Bring the Day by Linnea Good (actually anything by her would be fine)
Part of the Family, by Jim Manley
Draw the Circle Wide (not sure who wrote that one)
As the Deer Pants for the Water by Marty Nystrom
We Are Not Alone by Jim and Jean Strathdee
Waiting for the Light, by Bruce and Cheryl Harding
You are Holy, You are Whole (not sure who wrote this one either)
And there are so many more - how many hours do we have for this hymn sing?

It's not exactly toe tapping material, but I definately feel the spirit when I sing "Here I am Lord".
Toe tapping favourites are "Lord of the Dance" and "One Day at a Time".
Anything by Scott Kearns - you lucky Canadians, he's one of yours!
Inanna,
It's thanks to you dear one , that I enjoyed Tim Minchin singing "White Wine in the Sun" in person.
(Nothing like a little across the ocean connection!)

How Great Thou Art. The words are provided so we can all sing along.

Go Make a Diff'rence
Over My Head
Rise & Shine & Give God the Glory, Glory :)
I've heard Stand Up Stand Up for Jesus played so slowly I could only picture battle-weary injured soldiers dragging themselves back home. Not good. That was a fun one when played well, but I don't get the theology anymore.
Spirit of Gentleness
Land of Confusion, Disturbed (ok, not for me to sing, but useful in the right spot!!)
depends on the time, day, crowd, theme, issues.

I like many of the ones already mentioned, but thought first of the one that goes...
I am the light of the world
You people come and follow me
If you follow and love, you'll learn the mystery
of what you were meant to do and be.

my favorite has always been 'be not afraid'....
you shall cross the barren desert, but you shall not die of thirst
you shall wander far in safety, though you do not know the way
you shall speak your words in foreign lands, and all will understand
you will see the face of god and live...
be not afraid
i go before you always
come, follow me,
and i will give you rest
