When they grow up ...

In the music thread, I talked about rediscovering Chris de Burgh recently. On his 1986 album Into the Light, he recorded a beautiful little ballad for his daughter (2 at the time) called "For Rosanna".

In reading up on what's been happening with de Burgh in recent years, I discovered that the little girl to whom that song was dedicated is now a gorgeous 25 year-old model (Rosanna Davison) and was the first woman from Ireland to win Miss World.

I have two reactions to this:

a) Damn, I'm getting old. In my head, he's still singing that song to a little girl, but it just ain't so anymore.

b) Where will my boy be in 15 years (he's 10 now)? Based on his current interests and personality, I'm thinking engineering, but you just never know until you get there, I guess. I doubt that Chris de Burgh expected his daughter would become a beauty queen when he wrote that song.

ahh - my son is 11, my daughter almost 14.  I've watched them evolve, and it is amazing.  Which part of their interesting personalities will become their work?  their hobbies?  their pain?  not sure yet.

my daughter is 2 and my son is 5.  the song my dad chose for us on my wedding day was "i hope you dance" by lee ann womack.  i wish the same for my children, and hope they live by   the words of that song.  that they follow their dreams.  that they stand in awe of it all.  that they never take a single moment of life for granted.  right now my son  loves music.  his favourite at the moment is louis armstrong and knows the entire song of what a wonderful world by heart and has almost self taught himself to play the tune on his guitar.  his other aspriation is to be an author like eric carle or an illustrator.  my little girl on the other hand dances from the moment she wakes to the moment she closes her eyes at night.  she wants to be a ballerina. or a "pwincess" *lol*  where you send them to school for that one beats the heck outta me *lol*

wouldn't it be interesting to pull this thread out in 15 years and see what's changed.

"Every little girl is a princess" I heard that somewhere. So true. You might want to send her to the schools where princes go! I think the trick is to be a princess on the inside ; )

I have made a three volume soundtrack to my life, well only up to age 21, I have another set of volumes to record now...but it's really nice to be able to look back as I play the songs and remember all my stages of growing up I did. Songs are perfect for encapsulating the moment.
