Childhood Diaries

Did you write a diary as a kid? Still have em? I was listening to CBC radio yesterday, and they were talking about a do somewhere where people show up with old writtings from their childhood and read them before the audience, called "Grown ups read stuff they wrote as kids", and they played recordings of it and it was quite a lark. Some people had diary entries, some letters they wrote to relatives, or stories, or school writting assignments. It was quite cute and funny, and some were touching.

The Flavour of Memory

Not sure which area to post this in, as it is one of those topics that spans several areas (relationships, aging, it's philosophical enough to go in religion), but perhaps Social is the best...

Letters Home: How would you feel?

There is a new website called lettershome.ca , where one can post a letter to the occupants of their childhood home, and then mail a copy along with a letter from the website explaining the idea, and a few photos,  and hope to get a reply posted on the site, and mailed to you. They only has 10 submissions so far.

I have written a letter, but I have decided not to post it online. It is a happy letter, and a very personal letter. I'm thinking of maybe mailing it. I still remember my old postal code even!

When they grow up ...

In the music thread, I talked about rediscovering Chris de Burgh recently. On his 1986 album Into the Light, he recorded a beautiful little ballad for his daughter (2 at the time) called "For Rosanna".

In reading up on what's been happening with de Burgh in recent years, I discovered that the little girl to whom that song was dedicated is now a gorgeous 25 year-old model (Rosanna Davison) and was the first woman from Ireland to win Miss World.

I have two reactions to this:

What Might Have Been

I have been going to a lot of concerts lately.  The artists are my age.  They also have Bachelor of Music Degrees.

Instead if inspiring me to practice more they are having the opposite effect.  I am remembering when I performed A LOT more and with good musicians.  I am still good but I have not been performing much and not as good as I was when I graduated and was practising 15 hours per week.  Getting a job and life interferes with that.

Playground games and rhymes

Everyone must have some of these that they remember from the playground. I was wondering how similar or different the rhymes were from different times and different parts of Canada. Also, I'd be interested to hear what the guys did, since I don't recall doing much with boys from this period of my life (except for my brother, which was different because we always avoided associating at school if possible, though we were great buddies at home).
