Must be a slow day today.
I just read an article about the Republican Party of Texas setting their platform for the 2012 campaign. One of the planks was about opposing the teaching of 'higher thinking' skills in high school, lest it interfere with what the article called 'fixed beliefs' of students.
Be that as it may, my mind spun off in an alternate direction. I am a graduate of a Liberal Arts college. You know, the usual smattering of science, math, history, human sciences, etc. etc. It occured to me that never, ever in my life, have I heard of a 'conservative arts' institution. Wonder why.
If there was such an entity as a 'conservative arts' college, what would it be like? What would be included in the curriculum? What would one 'learn' there?

It's easier to brainwash students if they do not develop their critical thinking skills....

OMG...I can't even imagine having the mindset that would lead to deliberately not teaching critical thinking skills. They actually want kids to grow up gullible and obedient and not to question anything???

sad .... those creative, open, questioning, exploring young thinkers being shut down ... it's appalling ....
