Wondercafe now on Facebook & Twitter

I just noticed that Wondercafe now has Facebook & Twitter pages.  Many discussions that appear on this website also appear on Facebook & Twitter in public pages.

Once information appears on Facebook, its near impossible to get rid of in the future, and they have control over it.

Personally, if I wanted to discuss on Facebook, I would prefer to choose to do so myself.

Any thoughts on this issue?

WC has been on FB for a fair while now.  ANd it is safest to assume that anything anywhere on the web is there forever.

To me, if it's on WonderCafe, it's public anyway, so it really doesn't bother me. Especially since I don't use my real name anyway! :-)

Can't say I'm surprised that WC is on Facebook. Everything else is.  Just took a quick glance at the Facebook page. Personally, I thought it was rather dull. And I agree with the above posters. Facebook, Wonder Cafe - if it's something I don't want public, I'm not going to put it on either, or on any other website.

I don't like that it's on Facebook. I see no reason for it. If we want to talk on Wondercafe, we go to Wondercafe, not to Facebook. If we want an update on what's going on on Wondercafe, we go to Wondercafe. I don't trust Facebook.

Do you mean that everything we post on Wondercafe is shown on Facebook also?

nope occassionally a thread will be "featured" and show up on your home page if you "Like" the WC page with a link to the full discussion

I think the FaceBook group was started because Wondercafe was down for a period of time — did I get that right or was it created for other reasons? I know that's when I visited it.

It seems that the PAge administrator chooses and posts links.

THere are 2 things. One is the Group which has little activity (why would it since we all talk here).  The other is the Page which one used to become a Fan of but now chooses to Like.

But if you haven't selected "like" of Wondercafe on Facebook, the selected conversations still show up on the WOndercafe Facebook page, for all to see, which isn't so bad in itself because all can see it here too, BUT, and this is a big BUT...Facebook retains the right to "use" anything posted on their website without the original poster's permission. Who knows what they could do with anything we say. They effectively own it. And that's why people post drivel on Facebook, stuff that is not important or potentialy damaging.

Facebook's privacy policy was in the news on the BBC today. Check it out. http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/haveyoursay/2010/05/are_you_worried_about_facebook.html

Have you read what we've agreed to by posting on WonderCafe, Eleanorgold? :)

Thanks Richard. I didn't know that.

I did a lot of thinking about it, when I first read the Agreement here, Elanorgold.

It comes down to trust, doesn't it? I post silly things on Facebook, because I don't trust them with my serious stuff. I don't trust how or when or why it will be used.

I do trust the UCCan - part of that is knowing Aaron and Keith and other people on the decisionmaking team, but part of it is that its, well, the UCCan!

Yes, one can say trust in this regard. Admin have been very kind, considderate and thoughtful. I don't remember that part of the agreement, maybe I skimmed over it at the time... I remember reading it in Amazon's.

As for Facebook, I have deleted my account, not "de-activated"... deleted. Anyone else who wishes to learn how to do the same, or read why we might want to, check this link:
