Oh my my my.
Last night I saw an ad for the new "Saw" movie (horror slasher type series of flicks) and they actually opened the ad with
WWJD
And then asked, "What would Jigsaw do?"
Jigsaw being the psychotic killer, of course. Now I'm used to WWJD referring to Jesus, but usually I don't see the acronym "out there" in the wider culture.
Is this a good thing, because the filmmakers obviously think that people know what WWJD usually refers to? Or is it just bad news, more blasphemy, as Jesus is used not just to sell Christmas cards, but to sell tickets to a movie filled with sadistic killing?

the whole 'saw' franchise has been going downhill at a fast pace... the first one was quite unique, however the concept gets old after 2 movies.
as far as the wwjd thing, using the j for jigsaw rather than jesus is just the latest in a series of take off's on that whole thing... i've seen restaurants use wwje (where would jesus eat?), stores use wwjw (what would jesus wear?)...
it was bound to happen in a diverse society.

Hi Clergychickita,

Marketting ploy. I'm guessing that the movie opens during the Christmas rush so it is most likely meant to turn things on there ear.
I don't know that it constitutes blasphemy since it doesn't actual depict Jesus as a sadistic killer. It just puts a sadistic killer going out for more gore during this holiday season. Of course it may be the movie has a Christmas theme and people will be savaged by rolls of wrapping paper or perhaps they will get strung up by a faulty cord of lights?
And hey, what better way to market a Christmas slasher flick than comparing the protagonist with a religious figure. Not like it is an original thought.
Grace and peace to you.

I think it shows laziness and lack of creativity on the part of the marketing/advertising team. Use of variations of WWJD has been propogated ad nauseum in popular culture IMO.
That said, I think when anyone is in a dilemma and not sure what to do, they should consider this:
WWPD -- What Would Punkins Do?
And then do the opposite ...

Greetings!
In my next dilemna I'm going to have to remember that (WWPD!) - perhaps we should have a telephone number to be able to call you at 3 or 4 in the morning when we are in the midst of our conundrums, punkins .
Hope, peace, joy, love . . .

*Take 5*
Jesus is walking through the desert, without hit beloved car. Looks up to the camera. "I knew I should have switched to Geico..."
Flash to centerscreen: W.W.J.S? Where would Jesus shop....for car insurance!
Fade to black.

Hey Omnissiah,
That was a good commercial.
I like this one.
Jesus is standing on the rocks in Channel-Port-Aux-Basques. Facing a tempestuous sea he looks up and then walks off across the waves.
Somebody else (let's call him Peter) comes along and looks up in the clouds which flash WWJD. So Peter steps off of the rocks and splashes around.
The Camera starts to pan from the rocks right toward the docks where the Joey and Clara Smallwood is docked.
The camera pans to the following voice over.
Jesus can walk across water. For everyone else . . .there's VISA.
Grace and peace to you.

Wow. And all i have is a coffee mug with "What Would Jesus Do?" Among other things, it reminds me not to put sugar in my coffee.
I personally kind of like the whole WWJD. However I would find it more thought provoking to ask and ponder WDJD - What DID Jesus Do?

OK. I also have a coffee mug that reads: "Real Men Love Jesus" That's my favorite.
