As citizens of the planet, we are all responsible for the environment to some degree. We all need to take steps to reduce the negative impact we are having on the planet, however, whatever you or I or Johnny down the street does will certainly not be enough to make a huge difference. Who or what are the real problems? If we really want to save our planet we need to change our society.

The real problem has less to do with greenhouse gases, oil spills, toxic waste, etc, etc and more to do with man's inherent ambition to "succeed" In our society success is measured by how much money you make, and how many "things" you can accumulate in your lifetime. The quality of our relationships, and how we treat others, how we care for them, and all of our "things" is considerably less relevant.

My mother used to say "money is at the root of all evil" What she meant, I suppose, was "greed" is at the root of all evil. Unfortunatley, money makes the world go 'round. Money is Power. With Power, however, comes Responsibility. So who should be responsible for the environment? Those with the Money and the Power of course!

It's time that Government and BIg Business stepped up to the plate in a meaningful way.

We are all responsible for the health of our planet and its inhabitants. Environmental concerns are vast and broad ranging. We all need to do our part. Some ways we can make a difference include: reducing our personal ecological footprint, changing our lifestyles to consume less and care more, educating ourselves on environmental issues, cleaning up our waterways, protecting species at risk, preserving natural habitat, lobbying for positive change, taking more walks in the woods, birdwatching, stargazing, returning unused or expired medications to a pharmacy that will dispose of them properly, reducing pesticide use, sharing nature with our children and grandchildren, choosing careers that will help bring real and lasting change, eco-friendly and socially responsible investing, watching less t.v. and reading more books or playing board games... the list goes on. I could write a book on this; hmm, not such a bad idea.

Everyone is suddenly an enviromentalist or enviromentally aware, i think most are big hypocrites. Most people who "take care of the planet', "recycle" dont really do it out of care for the earth they just do it because its either cool, the in thing. personally i dont recycle, i'm not concerned i dont know why, i think its just a case of in less than a 75 years ill be dead so my kids and their generation better figure something out, i survived through recessions, crime waves, poverty, its just another facet of human evolution or living.
I just hope there is no reincarnation, i mean it would suck coming back in 2108!

I strongly believe that Nature takes care of herself. We will not reign supreme forever. Nothing ever has. Dinosaurs had their time. Mammoths had their time. We've got ours right here right now. Everything dies eventually. We just chose to speed things up. Can't hate yourself once you have cancer - the damage is already done. At this point focus on quality, not quantity. Just be grateful for what you take, give back when you can, don't do more damage than you need to and you will find yourself part of Nature's cycle. Don't fight it. Just makes it harder to face.
