A Statement of Affirmation for People of Faith
Can we
•celebrate our similarities
•accept our differences
…looking instead to what our unique experiences reveal to us about God?
•Will we
•acknowledge the authenticity of others’ experience of God
•celebrate our own traditions
…embracing the diversity of God’s presence in creation?
•Do we
•resist oppression and hatred
•seek God in the people we meet
…becoming the hands of God in action?
We are all familiar with Jesus' admonition to "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you." Perhaps he could have qualified that a bit with:
• but don't be too specific and
• but don't expect of others that they do unto you as you do unto them.
There is discussion on another thread that I don't want to hi-jack. So, could you live your life by the Golden Rule?
"Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself."
If everyone lived by these words, could we not solve any problem we have or any problem that the world has?
Would you like to give examples of how you could or could not live Agape.
I recently came across this most refreshing article written by the Dalai Lama. Enjoy!
