Tragedy and trouble struck one day,
The earthquake wiped my whole village away.
As I stand amidst the dust and rubble
(Whining,,,,well Armenius Started it!)

There is a wonderful poem in Jean LIttle's book "Hey world, Here I am " entitled "Today".
It speaks of a child who is always doing their best, always striving, always on....and the active decision to not be on....
Does anyone know it?

the dark emptiness
where gloom and apathy dwell
Let its glow wash over
downtrodden dreams
making them shimmer with expectation
Scatter its sparkling promise
