Hi folks!
It's that time of year again - time for Secret Santas! Here's how it works: you send, via private message me your name and your address and I will randomly select someone to send you a gift and someone else for you to send something to. In that private message, I also recommend sending in some ideas of things that you are interested in (hobbies, sports teams, etc.). It's not about spending a lot of money. Let's limit the price of the gift to $10 (not including postage).
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to either post them here or private message me. If you would like to sign up for this, please do so via private message.
Let's have some fun this Christmas!

I'm in. Do you have an idea for the cut-off date?
somegalfromcan
Posted on: 11/03/2013 23:51
Thanks for pointing out my omission Chemgal! The cut off is Friday November 8th at 11:59PM (PST). I hope that will be enough time for folks!

Maybe make it saturday night for the weekend people if it works ok for you? I think there's a few who sometimes get swamped during the week and might miss out.

Good suggestion Chemgal! In that case I might as well change it 12 noon (pacific) on Sunday (November 10th) - as, realistically, I won't be able to get to it until after that time anyhow.

I'm in. I've enjoyed gifts of teddy bears, earrings, Christmas ornaments over the last few exchanges. Check oout the favourite colour and favourite candy threads for ideas.

I'm in. But I won't be sending any hints of what I'd like. I prefer to be surprised by what someone who only knows me virtually might pick out for me. Also, if I get your name, I won't necessarily be looking at your hints (hobbies, sports teams), but I'll be looking around for something that inspires me to think "That's perfect for so&so, and it would be easy to mail."

I gave ideas of what I like, but I don't mind if someone doesn't use them. I've been stuck on buying gifts IRL before, so I know that sometimes that information can save a great deal of time!

At this point what does it matter if my name is out there. The news from Aaron threw me for a loop.

I am wondering if they could be mailed by Dec. 1. That gives 24 days. Anybody think like Pinga and me- not enough time.

Not enough time to join in, or not enough time to obtain, wrap & mail gifts?

Hi folks!
I apologize if this is late. I didn't start in October for a couple of reasons: firstly because I thought it was too early and secondly because the last couple of weeks have been extremely busy for me and I simply had no extra time.
In the past I've found that most people sign up for this in the first few days, so I think a week should be more than enough. Crazyheart has kindly passed on a list of folks who participated last year, so I will follow up with any of them who have not yet responded in a couple of days.
I just checked the Canada Post website, and they are saying that all packages mailed by December 11th should make it to their destinations on time.
I have a sent a reply to everyone that I have heard from so far, so if you haven't heard from me, it's because the computer gremlins are at work and I haven't heard from you - so please try again!

Also, Pinga - I haven`t received any Wondermail from you. If you would like to participate, could you please send me your info? Thanks!

I don't like to play Christmas music too soon, but maybe a song or two just for today until we hit the actual season. Any requests?

Posted on: 11/05/2013 01:08
Hmmm... how about a song that is borderline Christmassy like Sarah McLachlan's Wintersong?

I've been involved in at least three of the last several Secret Santa years. I was reminded today (on the cafe closing thread) about what joy it has been for folks. As this will be our last, I want to play again!

I think the approx $10 is appropriate. But there is nothing to stop a person from spending more (or giving a handmade craft or re-gifting something that might be worth more). Approx. $10 and a bit of creative thinking can provide a nice gift.
Pinga
Posted on: 11/06/2013 23:36
Agreed, money doesn't make it "the best one yet". In fact, the best gifts are ones that often cost very little
Tabitha
Posted on: 11/07/2013 12:00
Remember the red negligee ? Didn't SG have something to do with that? And I believe it was from a thrift store.
Stick with around $10 plus postage and be creative.
somegalfromcan

What would make this the "best one yet" is an ounce of creativity, a dash of inspiration, a healthy serving of fun - all mixed together and sprinkled with enthusiasm.
Money doesn't really factor into the above equation and raising the limit would be a deterrent to some. So please stick with approximately $10. Besides, nobody wants to be the person who spent $10 and then receives a gift that clearly cost a lot more than that - I know I would be embarrassed. In the past I have received some very creative gifts from the folks who have been my Santa.

Ok... It was just a suggestion... $10 is fine with me too.

What is priceless to one is not priceless to another. Let me tell you this little story. A long time ago a neighbour was driving all over with out a licence. One day in front of her daughter I said",(name) you will get picked up by thepolice and will get sued for everything you have. Her little girl's eyes got big and she said "Even our solid gold lamps?) I laughed every time I saw the painted yellow metal lamps.
