I have been diagnosed with Hereditary Angioedema (HAE). It's both a blood and immune disorder, as a protein in the blood, C1 inhibitor, is either at too low of a concentration or doesn't function properly so the immune system is 'on' at inappropriate times. This results in swelling, and can occur in various parts of the body. It can be life threatening if there is facial or throat swelling.
The basic eligibility to donate blood is available on the canadian blood services website
http://www.bloodservices.ca/centreapps/internet/uw_v502_mainengine.nsf/p...
But it doesn't include detailed information.
Does anyone know what autoimmune diseases or other conditions prevent one from donating?
