The following article is about the Federal government shutting down the 150 year old prison farm programme.  However what struck me in reading the article was not that mistake - which I do consider a mistake - but because I am constantly amazed at the short sightedness and fiscal irresponsibility of the whole "tough on crime" mind set.  As the article comments, the US found such thinking leads to an ever deepening money pit.
