Many of us travel to the sacred cities identified in our own epic stories not unlike the characters in the Wizard of Oz or Wicked - going to the Emerald City. We pilgrimage to claim a place in the unfolding life drama of our lives desiring to connect to the myth of our own life stories passed on to us by our ancestors.
My body is driven to the extreme, chasing pipe dreams, 160 down the open highway.
My mind follows suit, stumbling along taking pit stops, playing catch up with my thoughts.
I was on empty coming into the city lights, but I kept my foot down hard on the pedal.
I wanted to achieve the glitz, the glamour and the fame of coming in number one.
My feelings were twisted like the mangled metal, I seen in the car wrecks, I passed from my past.
I had people to see, places to be, and things to do, yet all I was doing was going in circles.
So at last it has happened. The NDP has won power in an Atlantic province.
Whoopee!
It did so with a platform that could have been harper conservative without changing a comma. One promise, to balance the budget (just as start the descent into severe recession) is so inane I might have expected to see it in a New Brunswick Liberal platform.
So in all he long march from the Regina Manifesto through the CCF to the NDP, it's come to this. A new government that looks just like the old one it is replacing.
