For Manual Wonks - New Draft Manual Is Released

A major revision of the United Church Manual has been released in draft form this week. It simplifies and makes clear many of the processes and procedures we follow in the United Church, as well as both clarifying and muddying the waters.

Input generally and specifically is being asked for, although the input deadline is September, so time is short.

You can download the many sections (it would be nice to have it in one volume, too) here:

Consultation on Simplifying Church Processes

The deadline for submitting comments on simplifying The United Church of Canada’s processes is October 1. The goal of this consultation is to make the church’s procedures and practices less complex and free people to live out their faith more effectively. As part of this work, The Manual will be shortened and made more user-friendly to reflect these simplified processes.

Presbyteries use of Email Polls

Our Presbytery has often used email to poll members regarding an appointment etc instead of bringing people together for a meeting when the decision cannot wait until the next meeting of Presbytery.  As this is not allowed we were told by the Exec Sec not to do it anymore.  Last night we were told by the President of Conference at our Presbytery meeting that there will be a rule in the 2010 Manual that will allow Presbyteries to do this.

Can anyone confirm this?
