How do we respond with hope to the environmental challenges of our time? 

Mardi Tindal, The Moderator of The United Church of Canada, is travelling across Canada on the Spirit Express to engage people in town hall meetings about their responses to the issues of climate and ocean change.' 

The United Church has launched an appeal for Pakistan and posted a video on www.youtube.com/unitedchurchof canada about it deals with emergencies.  Also check out the ACTAlliance site for up to date pictures from the region. www actalliance.org.

There is some strange parallels between climate change and Jesus.

If one goes up to a 'normal' secular human in our society, and starts talking about Jesus, they wonder what planet you're from.  Their life is going fine.  It's under control.  The mortgage just got paid off, the promotion at work just happened, and retirement is only five years off.  Life is good and under control.  What on earth are you talking about Jesus for?

Groups are gathering in various regions of the world today, June 8th, to mark World Oceans Day, learning and taking action about ocean change, along with climate change.

My prayer times are extended these days with so many troubling incidents of violence and distress calling to be held in God’s love, peace, and justice.

This webcam was set up by well-known nature photographer Rolf Hicker and family who reside in Port McNeill.  It is a beautiful place and the objective of the site is to share the peace and tranquility of the area with the rest of the world.

This week’s General Council Executive meeting unanimously decided that the work of the General Council Office will be focused on supporting denominational identity and connection. (Read more about these decisions on the United Church website.)

In the days since our meeting, I’ve been blessed by events and conversations that have reminded me of core strands in our denominational DNA—our identity.

 Texas Gov. Rick Perry Monday offered a stern warning against halting oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico in the wake of a massive oil leak, and he raised the question of whether the explosion was an “act of God.”
