Expensive Drugs

This is a US based article, but how much help is offered by governments in Canada for people who need these medications?

Drug Shortages

I've been looking a bit into medications to treat a condition I might have.  There aren't many.

I've learned there is a shortage of one, is not available in the province and it's estimated it won't be until the summer.  This isn't to prevent something as minor as a rash, it's to prevent a reaction that has a high potential to be life-threatening.

Are drug shortages like this common?  It's not that often that I hear about them, and I pay attention to medical news.

Contributing to the Brain Drain?

I am not sure what to make of Dr. Raj Sherman's allegations.  They could be true, or it may just be a political move.  Either way, they are concerning.

Some doctors have come forward though, and there is a problem.  These are our specialists and we need them!  I'm sad to see doctors go to the states because they are being labelled as 'mentally incompetent' for speaking up for patients.  What is going on?

Obama - still a great hope?

Eight months ago, it was close to blasphemy in these threads to suggest that Obama might not be the great hope for the future. One reads daily of spreading disillusionment of the constant watering down of his health care proposal - and the probability that even that will not pass. An American army of 130,000 is still in Iraq with little sign of leaving. The war in Afghanistan goes on, with troop figures increased, with the war spreading to Pakistan, and no end in sight. The American economy shows no sign of recovering. The use of detention camps has not ceased.

US health care and the fall out from Natasha Richardson's ski accident

The USA , under Obama, is ready to tackle the issues related to access to Health Care for all.

And then came Natasha Richardson.  Her fall.  Her ambulance drive to Montreal.  Her ultimate death.

Some of the press is saying that if she had been at a US resort across the border she would still be alive.  Their system, while greatly flawed has so much more access to MRI's, helicopters and immediate care.
