The Slutwalk thread has got me thinking. There's still a long way to go in Canada when it comes to rape, sexual assault and harassment. There's the issues that were brought up with rape, where the victim is blamed, but I think there's an even larger problem. I don't know if there's a women in Canada past the age of 18 who has never been sexually harassed, if there is such a person I image they must have lived a very sheltered life. I don't know how many males who have been sexually harassed, but I would imagine the rate is still pretty high.
I saw a spot in TV this week about Kung Fu Grannies in Kenya - a programme teaching martial arts to older women for self defence, as rape is a growing problem for them. A sad thing that such a programme is needed - but kudos to all who are involved.

Have you ever taken a self-defence course? What difference has it made to you?
I've been touring the FLDS webiste recently because of a tagent that I got on while researching a message on Evil and Suffering.
We are starting our first Women of the Bible Study. We have chosen Dinah to begin.
We will look at these women in the context of their time and we will try to discern lessons that can be learned for women in our time and space.
First, the scriptures will be posted so that everyone can read them. There may be other translations that bring insight but I googled NRSV.
Lastly, all thoughts will be honored - both conservative and liberal and everything in between. I hope this will be a fulfilling exercise for all of us.
