To start let's make it clear we are not talking about religion, as for most scientists it’s just a collection of folk stories with no claim to grasp the nature of reality.
The argument can not be about theism or atheism, because we should know by now, there can't be any proof either way, and we should stop discussing it, it’s a waste of time.
In this post I want to move the theist/atheist argument to materialism vs idealism.
As a fact, Quantum Physics striped reality of materialism. It is not possible to formulate the laws (of quantum theory) in a fully consistent way without reference to consciousness. What that says to any of you about reality, I don't know, but I’m an agnostic idealist.
Quotes:
"An independent reality, in the ordinary physical sense, can neither be ascribed to the phenomena nor to the agencies of observation." Niels Bohr
"If one wants to give an accurate description of the elementary particle—and here the emphasis is on the word "accurate"—the only thing which can be written down as description is a probability function. But then one sees that not even the quality of being...belongs to what is described" Werner Heisenberg
"Observations not only disturb what is to be measured, they produce it." Pascual Jordan
"The doctrine that the world is made up of objects whose existence is independent of human consciousness turns out to be in conflict with quantum mechanics and with facts established by experiment." Bernard d'Espagnat
With the new high energy Large Hadron Collider (LHC) it is a matter of years until quantum physics will have irrefutable proof that materialism is only a projection of consciousness. At that point responsibility for your surrounding reality will be placed squarely and personally on your lap. That will be a shock for both theists and atheists. Our goal is to stay ahead in this process of revealing the nature of reality and advance by learning from informed projections.

Talking about spiritual attainment is hard because we lack a proper of definition of the word "spiritual".
Nowadays a lot of practices are put under the umbrella of spirituality ranging from self deprivation to taking drugs.
However in this short post we should hope to clear the word "attainment".
As human beings and we are always operating on faith since we never know what the future has in store for us.
When we pressed the elevator button we wait because we have faith it will come. Based on this statement we should make a distinction between three kinds of faith: below reason, within reason and above reason.
The usual connotation of the word refers to the first kind of faith: below reason, meaning that we’ve been told something and we believe it without verifying it. This is the religious approach to faith.
