Canada without Quebec

It seems likely the Parti Quebecois will win the next provincial election in Quebec. If so, they will almost certainly call another referendum - and I think it quite possible they would win because...

1. Support for separatism is running rather high, paricularly since it has not been that much in the news.

C.R.U.S.H ....

Saw an ad in the Toronto Star today which spoke to me - Canadians Rallying to UnSeat Harper - not sure I'm quite ready to send them my money, but I'm sure happy to see something is going on to raise a rallying cry!

harper the kiss up, and why

I read an item somewhere on the web, and just lost it. I would appreciate it if anyone could tell me where the story is.

It's about Canadian Jews for Peace in the Middle East. They had set up a tour for a Palestinian speaker who has been here before. The normal time for him to get a Canadian visa was 24 hours. But they applied far in advance this time. And this time the Canadian government, knowing his schedule, postponed the visa until it was too late. CJPME had, of course, to cancel the tour.

A federal election? maybe just around the corner.

The chances are that a federal election is in the works. And the person who wants it this time is harper.

Notice his prominence in new reports lately? Lots of drama. lots of posturing. That doesn't happen by accident.

There's that front page photo of him sipping a coffee at Tim Horton's. There's the walkout at the UN - Canada taking a stand, bold rejection, moral authority. (Whether he was right or wrong has nothing to do with it. Politicians rarely take stands on the basis of right and wrong. They take stands that give them prominence and draw votes.)

Federal Affairs bans the words it doesn't like. Orwell would be proud.

This makes me incredibly mad, I think because of the dishonesty even more than the changes.  BASTARDS!!  I find it really, really hard to see how anyone with any interest in caring for the world and each other is able to continue to support these disgusting, immoral, bastards.

Lots of detail at this link:

Harper bringing back the death penalty?

It would appear that our Prime Minister is moving toward bringing back the death penalty. According to an article in Law Times, French-Canadian media outlets have covered this story extensively, while the English speaking media gave it a pass. In my opinion, this is an extremely important issue...I am very opposed to the present position taken by our government (allowing third countries to execute Canadians without our government intervening) and worry that the Liberals may continue to support the Harper government, should this ever come to a vote.

We are becoming a world-wide embarrassment

I'm not sure if you're familiar with the story of Abousfian Abdelrazik, the Canadian who is basically a prisoner in the Canadian Embassy in the Sudan. His story is another horrible of example of justice gone wrong and our present government is doing nothing to assist Mr. Abdelrazik, if fact, they are, by their actions and their lack of action, condemning him to a life that should not be his fate. I feel quite angry that he is being treated this way and find it increasingly embarrasing to be a Canadian.

Scary Con "Justice" Bill

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2009/05/20/fingerprints-crime.html

From the story, the law does three things:

1) allow police to fingerprint and photograph someone before they are charged with an offense

2) make it illegal to escape prosecution by skipping across Provincial lines

3) allow police to obtain warrants 24 hours a day.

Nice call, Harper.  Great choice.  Freaking morons.  Any other insults necessary to fill out 10 words.
