Good news

I got some good news today.  My  mother's condition has been deteriorating very rapidly over the past 2 weeks and we thought for sure it was because the tumor was growing, but we got the results from her MRI and the tumor has actually shrunk.  The deterioration has been caused by the water retention that is a side effect of the steriods that she is on.  They cut the steriods by one pill a day for this week and will be reducing them by half a pill a week until they find a balance between the side effects and the benefits.  She cannot have another course of chemo unti

Is retirement bad for your health?

Three years ago, I retired. I had led a busy life - teaching, radio twice a day, TV, public talks fifty or sixty a year. I looked forward to doing things I had never had timem for - a family tree, some reading...  Instead, I find I'm always tired an spiritless. Two months ago, I spent time in hospital being checked for an irregular heart beat. I have little energy.

Essay for Pilgrim's Progress - Changed Perceptions

This is my attempt to respond to Pilgrims' Progress' request for an essay (she's an Aussie teacher, eh?) on how my health issue has altered my "perception on life." (I hope I pass)

This is, of course, a personal reflection. I offer it FWIW.

FLU PANDEMIC -EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

I wanted to start a thread on the current situation regarding the Influenza outbreak in Mexico.

I am concerned about a recent CNN report that stated that the virus was shown to have DNA from the Swine, Human, and Avian Influenza viruses.  I am concerned that we may experience another pandemic and that our governments are not giving us enough information and the information we are getting is "toned down" for our benefit.

Messages for Namaste

Hello all

Per another thread, BusyMom asked that we let Namaste's friends know that she will be off-line for a bit.

She is in the hospital...and will write when she can.

I'm sure she will welcome your warm wishes.

Reduction mammaplasty (breast reduction)

Ok, this is the first day I could post a thread myself. It was not one I wanted to ask someone to start for me.

The wife's recent surgery was a reductive mammaplasty, a breast reduction. Her oversized breasts had plagued her with health problems for decades. The problems included neck and back pain, skeletal problems and serious skin irritations, all of which we were aware of and have required medical care for years.

High blood pressure

I have been diagnosed with high blood pressure.  When I checked my blood pressure at the pharmacy when I was picking up my prescription my blood pressure was seriously high.  I decided to check on-line because I had felt aweful all day and was interested in finding out what dangerously high blood pressure was.  It turned out that I was only 5 mmHg below what is called malignant high blood pressure that required immediate hospitalization to bring it down.
