On March 12, 1989, Tim Berners-Lee (later knighted so now known as Sir Tim...) published the first document describing HTML (the language used to format web pages) and HTTP (the computer protocol that allows web browsers to retrieve web pages). So, that means the Web (or at least its core technologies) turns 25 today. Without Sir Tim's work, we would not have Google, Netflix, Facebook or, of course, Wondercafe.
Interesting book review from Salon. Basically an author suggests that the persecution of Christians by the Roman Empire was exaggerated or non-existent save in a few brief periods (eg. Diocletion's persecution). May give it a read. In my reading of Roman history the persecution certainly was no more severe than the persecution of some other traditions and philosophies they didn't lile (eg. The Druids, Domitian's attack on the Stoics).

I am not sure where to put this, it is not likely to appeal to the Popular Culture folks, but neither do I intend to make a political statement. This story and pictures made feel like I could sense the ghosts of history. I will add a few sample photos as "posts" because they are tricky to load and you cannot edit the title post.

I went to see The King's Speech last night.
Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Just came across this excellent lecture by Dale B. Martin, a professor at Yale University, its part of a large and comprehensive course. It gives wonderful insight into the scholar's process, as well as biblical insight.
I've been away working on the road a lot, but popped into WC to find yet another "evolution vs. creationism" debate. Great timing because the earliest known hominid skeleton has been discovered, an extremely significant event.
Here is a short article, and the full story and many of the research papers can be seen here:

40 years ago, on July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong stepped on the moon.
There's a magnificent story in the bankruptcy of GM. One wouldn't think so to read the news, but this is, historically, like being on the walls of Rome as the barbarian hordes swept forward, like being a carib Indian with a video camera filming by satellite as Columbus' ships dropped anchor.
It symbolizes one of the great turning points of history because the post recession world is going to be very, very different from what we have known. five hundred years of history are about to fall away.
Hi folks. I came across this resource while searching for resources for home schooling science. I highly recommend it to those whishing to get some good, solid information on homonid evolution, in plain language. The documentary is great, and the additional explorations are also very valuable.
