I am setting up a section of my web site (accessiblechurch.ca )that will have links to current news articles and Blog postings that deal with issues of concerns of disability, illness, and Faith. Today in the New York Times there was this article which I though was so well written that I should post the link here.
A friend of mine dropped me a note to say:
My good friend Jesus and I were discussing mortgage renewals, and which would be better, to renew for 1 year @ 3.25%, or 4 years @ 4.15%.
He wanted to know what I thought. I replied as follows:
i had a thought the other day when having another profound conversation with my mother. :)
why are there different religions? why are there different denominations? why are we, as a human race, separated into these sects of faith?
One of the most common and significant divisions within Christianity I encounter is between those who regard the Bible as literal and those who regard it as a Guided guide that is usually metaphoric.
It seems to me that those who regard it as literal must have either made a decision that it is so, or must have been brought up to believe that. This to me seems as though people are relating to and putting their Faith in a book rather than in God and Christ.
When I joined wondercafe a few days ago, I went directly to this very page. Convinced that my love for writing would give me something great to write about, some great introduction to the wondercafe community.
My sister had an aneurism on a airplane last weekend. She was travelling to Floriday with my nephews. Liam Alexander my oldest nephew was also celebrating his 13th birthday this week, and his brother Martial is 10. Her condition is becoming more uncertain as she continues to have bleeding. I am going nuts here in Canada, as more time passes the more uncertain things are and the more possibilities of what could happen terrify me.
If you believe in prayer, I would appreciate some for my sister and our family.
This week, I had an interesting experience. I joined a group on Facebook which was a discussion and exchange of resources for Lent. Two notifications came - one for "Happy Ash Wednesday", and one for "Happy Lent". I sent a private message saying that while I understood the intent, "Happy Lent" and "Happy Ash Wednesday" didn't seem quite theologically apt.
Marvel. A word, I think, we use too scarcely.
This past week a ministry colleague of mine emailed that she had been told by some people in her congregation that there was "too much prayer" in the service, and they thought she was using prayer as a cover for being "unprepared" for worship.
